The Brief

A customer in the hills above Haslemere had built a timber garden studio to work from home and needed it wired as a proper room, not an outbuilding on a lead. It needed to run a couple of monitors, a panel heater through the winter, decent lighting for video calls, and outdoor lights on the path back to the house. The studio sat at the bottom of a sloping garden, well away from the house board.

What we did

We ran an armoured (SWA) supply from the house consumer unit down the garden at the correct burial depth and fed a small sub-consumer-unit inside the studio, so the building has its own protected circuits rather than everything hanging off one overloaded spur. Inside: ring of sockets sized for a heater and office kit, warm dimmable LED downlights chosen to look right on camera, and a dedicated supply for the panel heater. Outside, we added weatherproof path lighting on a switch by the studio door. Everything RCD-protected, Part P notified, tested and certificated. The result runs like a small extension of the house, not a temporary fix.
