Guildford gives us more variety than anywhere we work. In one week we might be testing a student let off the cobbled High Street, adding lighting to a 1920s home in Onslow Village, and rewiring a Victorian terrace in Charlotteville. The county town has always mixed old and new closely, and its wiring does the same.

The garden-suburb houses around Onslow Village and the solid 1930s semis in Merrow and Burpham are lovely to work on but often carry decades-old boards that are well past a modern consumer unit. Closer to the station and the University, we do a steady run of landlord EICRs — the rental market here is busy, and a clear five-yearly certificate keeps everyone on the right side of the law. Up on Stag Hill and around the Cathedral the larger houses tend to want proper lighting schemes and EV chargers rather than repairs.
