Farncombe is about as local as it gets for us: our yard sits on its Catteshall edge, so this is genuinely our back garden. Grown up around the station and the church of St John’s, it’s a village of Victorian railway terraces, tightly packed streets like Summers Road and Farncombe Street, and the old wharf where the Wey Navigation slips quietly by.

Those railway-era terraces are lovely homes, but a lot of them still run on wiring and fuse boards that belong to a different century.
