What moves the price

Questions we actually get asked
How long will the power be off?
Three to five hours for a straightforward swap. We confirm the window when we book, and the fridge and freezer are fine if you keep the doors shut.
My old board has rewirable fuses. Is that dangerous?
Not automatically — but it offers a fraction of the protection a modern board does, and no RCD protection for you or your family. It’s the single most worthwhile upgrade in an older house.
Why do some quotes I’ve had seem much cheaper?
Usually a plastic board, shared RCDs instead of per-circuit RCBOs, no SPD, or no pre-testing of the circuits. Ask exactly what’s included — then compare like for like.
What’s an RCBO and why per circuit?
It combines overload and shock protection in one device per circuit. When something trips, only that circuit goes — not half the house, and not the freezer while you’re on holiday.
Do I legally need to upgrade?
No — there’s no law forcing an upgrade in your own home. Landlords need a satisfactory EICR, which an old board can fail. We’ll tell you honestly whether yours needs replacing or just monitoring.
