Service — Fault finding & repairs

Tripping fusebox? We find out why, not just reset it.

A breaker that keeps tripping is a symptom, and resetting it isn’t a repair. We diagnose methodically — split the circuit, test the halves, corner the fault — at a fixed first fee, so you know the cost before we ring the doorbell.

First 90 minutes: £115 fixed · then £68/hour, inc. VAT

How it goes

  1. 01

    Describe it to Dawn

What trips, when, and what was running. Sometimes she’ll save you a callout with one question about a kettle.

    Call before 2pm for a same-day slot

  2. 02

    Diagnose

We isolate, test and narrow it down. You’ll see the method — no head-scratching at your expense.

  3. 03

    Price the fix

Fault found, cause explained, repair priced. You decide before we continue.

  4. 04

    Repair and certify

Fixed, tested, certificated. If the fault points at a wider problem, we’ll say so — and say if it can wait.

What moves the price

Factor Why it matters
Time to locate Most faults surrender inside the fixed 90 minutes. An intermittent fault in buried cable is the stubborn exception.
The repair itself A damaged accessory is minutes; a damaged cable run means access and making good. Priced before we start it.
Access Faults under floors or above fixed ceilings take longer to reach than to fix.
What the fault reveals Sometimes a trip is the first honest report on an ageing installation. We’ll give you the facts, not a scare story.

Questions we actually get asked

The fusebox trips at random. What should I do first?

Unplug everything on the affected circuit and reset it. If it holds, plug things back one at a time — a failing appliance is the culprit surprisingly often. If it won’t hold when nothing’s plugged in, that’s wiring, and it’s time to call us.

Can you come today?

We keep two slots open every weekday for urgent faults. Call before 2pm and we’ll usually be with you the same day. No power, burning smells, or a trip that won’t reset all count as urgent.

Is a tripping RCD dangerous?

The trip itself is the RCD doing its job. The danger is in why — and in the habit of resetting it forever instead of finding out. If it trips more than once for no obvious reason, get it looked at.

What if you can’t find the fault?

Rare, but honest answer: intermittent faults sometimes need a second visit to catch in the act. You pay the fixed fee once — we don’t restart the clock for coming back to the same fault.

Lights flicker when the oven is on. Same problem?

Probably related — often a loose connection or an overloaded shared circuit. Flicker under load is worth reporting, not living with: loose connections are how heat and fires start.
